About them

QIAA is a New York–based nonprofit that supports artists across disciplines through exhibitions, education programs, and community engagement.
The goal was to redesign its website into a clear, accessible, and inspiring platform that reflects its mission: “We Stand Together to Make Art Accessible for All.”

Key challenges

  • QIAA’s acronym was shared by other organizations, making SEO visibility difficult.

  • Confusing navigation and unclear pathways to memberships, donations, and events.

  • Limited accessibility, especially for mobile users and first-time visitors.

  • The team needed a maintainable system that non-technical members could update easily.

Design Objectives

  • Clear information architecture for quick understanding of QIAA’s programs.

  • Accessible visual design that works across devices and supports users of all backgrounds.

  • Streamlined user flows for memberships, donations, and event sign-ups.

  • Consistent branding and visual hierarchy to improve trust and professional presence.

  • A content management structure that allows the nonprofit team to update the site without technical skills.

Original Website

The original QIAA website lacked a clear structure and cohesive design, which made it difficult for visitors to navigate or understand how to get involved. The membership system had not been set up, so users could not join or support the organization online.

All event listings had to be added manually, creating heavy maintenance work for the team. In addition, inconsistent spacing, excessive red tones, and non-responsive layouts caused accessibility and usability issues. While the site reflected QIAA’s creative energy, it struggled to function as an effective communication and engagement tool.

Outcome

The redesigned QIAA website created a clearer, more accessible experience for a wide and diverse audience. Visitors can now navigate programs, events, and resources with ease, while members have streamlined access to registrations, ticketing, and updates. The improved information architecture reduces confusion between key actions such as joining, donating, or attending events, and the new visual system strengthens QIAA’s identity as an inclusive and professional arts organization. The site now supports smoother content management for the QIAA team, allowing staff to update pages, post events, and manage memberships without technical barriers.

Next Step

Moving forward, I plan to continue refining the site’s accessibility features, including expanded alt text, improved color contrast options, and additional language support for international users. Future updates will also explore integrating more automated workflows, such as dynamic artist submission forms, membership renewal reminders, and personalized event recommendations based on user interests. I also aim to develop analytics dashboards to help QIAA measure visitor behavior and understand which programs resonate most with their audience. These next steps will support QIAA’s long-term goal of creating a digital platform that grows with its community and continues to make art more accessible for all.
